So, to be even able to start to talk about Ottoman invasion on Europe we have to go back to its arrival at the Asia Minor. Muslims took that peninsula from the Byzantine Empire. The first Ottoman leader used the dissolution of the Anatolia-ruling Sultanate of Rum in 1308 to gain independence for his empire. His son - Orhan started to take territory from the Byzantines and as he did it efficiently, he gained the first city in Europe in 1354 (Gallipoli). In the next decade Ottomans managed to conquer many lands on Balkans and defeat the Byzantine Empire.
As they hade pursued an agressive policy, christian leaders started to gather to attack the Muslim threat.
The Ottomans have easily defeated a big army leaded by a serbian king named Vukasin and have pushed towards the centre of the serbian empire. As they were going forward many feudal lords started to gather again to stand against the Sultan. The christian forces were defeated again and had to admit Ottoman supremacy.
I run the risk of appearing stupid ... but where did the Ottomans come from? I understand what's left of the empire is the current Turkey but where were they before they got there?
OdpowiedzUsuńSo to answer your question, Ottoman Empire was built from muslim tribes which came from Asia towards Europe and Asia Minor. It is said that these tribes weren't only Turkish, but also Turkish-Mongolian, as they came from central Asia.
