A 220,000-ton megaship called Ever Given is snared in a legal row between Egyptian authorities and the ship's owners over a financial dispute. Only two weeks ago the megaship was stuck in the sand in the Suez Canal and the action to pull it out was very expensive and it caused another 442 vessels were held by the blockage. It caused great losses both for Egyptian government, which helped to pull out the ship and the vessels' owners that were held in the blockade. It is said that the canal authority was seeking aproximately £650M and obviously the owner of Ever Given is not willing to pay it and that is the cause of Ever Given being impounded. The negotiations are ongoing to reach a settlement on compensation.
In my oppinion owning such a giant ship has a risk in the ship going stuck in a canal and the owner should pay the compensation. Such things shouldn't happen at all and I feel sorry for all the vessel owner that were stuck in the blockage.
